Writing Professor and Director of Literary Translation Susan Bernofsky has been awarded an honorary professorship at the Freie Universität Berlin for Summer 2023. 

Both The Man Who Sold Air in the Holy Land by Adjunct Assistant Professor Omer Friedlander and The Memory Monster, written by Yishai Sarid and translated from the Hebrew by alumna Yardenne Greenspan '12, are among the seven titles on the shortlist for the 2022/23 Wingate Literary Prize. 

The Literature Translation Institute of Korea, with support from the Korean Ministry of Culture, awarded alumna E. J. Koh ’13 the 2022 Translation Grand Prize in recognition of her translation of Yi Won's poetry collection, The World's Lightest Motorcycle, alongside the poet Marci Calabretta.

Translations by Adjunct Assistant Professor Megan McDowell, former Adjunct Assistant Professor Julia Sanches, and Writing alumna Hannah Kauders '20 are on the shortlist for this year’s Premio Valle Inclán, an annual prize for translators of full-length Spanish works. 

Seven Empty Houses, written by Argentinian author Samanta Schweblin and translated from the Spanish by Assistant Professor Megan McDowell, has been awarded this year’s National Book Award for Translated Literature. 

 

Cocoon (World Editions) by Zhang Yueran and Nine Color Deer (Levine Querido) by Kailin Duan, both translated from the Chinese by Associate Professor Jeremy Tiang, are out this fall. 

Alumna Yardenne Greenspan '12 has three new translations out this fall. 

The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) recently announced the shortlist for their translation awards, which includes members of Columbia’s Writing Faculty and Alumni. 

Trailblazing translator, Adjunct Assistant Professor, and alumna Katrine Øgaard Jensen ’17 has been honored with Denmark’s prestigious Kjeld Elfelt Memorial Grant. 2022 is the final time the grant will be awarded. 

Current Writing Program student Aziza Kasumov has been awarded the 2022 World Literature Today Student Translation Prize for best literary translation of a prose piece.

Action Books recently published My Jewel Box, a collection of poems by Ursula Andkjær Olsen translated from the Danish by Adjunct Assistant Professor Katrine Øgaard Jensen '17. The book is now available for purchase.

PEN America has announced the winners of the 2022 Literary Awards. Rebecca Donner ’01 and Adjunct Assistant Professor Julia Sanches were both honored at the Literary Awards Ceremony held in New York City's Town Hall on Monday night.
