Professor and School of Journalism alumna Margo Jefferson '71 was recently awarded a 2022 Donald Windham-Sandy M. Campbell Literature Prize (Windham-Campbell Prize), one of the literature field's most esteemed awards.

Our beloved colleague—poet, translator, essayist and critic Richard Howard, who taught at Columbia (which he also attended as an undergraduate) for nearly 30 years, died on Thursday at the age of 92. The range of his work was prodigious and it garnered many awards—the Pulitzer prize (1970) for his collection, Untitled Subjects, the PEN Translation Prize (1976) for his translation of E.M. Cioran’s A Short History of Decay, and the National Book Award (1984) for his translation of Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du Mal.

Alumnus and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Undergraduate Creative Writing Joseph Fasano '08 recently embarked on a creative project through Twitter titled "Poem for My Son."

Hannah Assadi’s “The Stars Are Not Yet Bells” follows a woman from her youth during the Depression through the onset of Alzheimer’s.

The American Academy of Arts and Letters announced the recipients of its highest honors for excellence in the arts, and Professor Phillip Lopate ’64 (CC) is among the honorees.

The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) recently announced the 2022 nominations for the National Magazine Awards. Alumna Lacy Warner '16 reported and interviewed for a 2021 issue of New York Magazine that was nominated for an award. The issue, Remember the Office?, is available to read online and in print from New York Magazine.

Penguin Random House recently published the memoir Constructing a Nervous System by Professor and School of Journalism alumna Margo Jefferson '71. The book is now available for pre-order.

Lambda Literary recently announced the 2022 finalists for the Lambda Literary Awards. Assistant Professor Hasanthika Sirisena was named a finalist in the category Bisexual Nonfiction for Dark Tourist (Mad Creek Books, 2021). Assistant Professor and alumna Gila Ashtor '20 was named a finalist in the category LGBTQ Studies for Homo Psyche (Fordham University Press, 2021). 

Eulalia Books recently published the long-awaited poetry debut, Cold, by Meg Matich '15. The collection is available for purchase at Eulalia Books.

Action Books recently published My Jewel Box, a collection of poems by Ursula Andkjær Olsen translated from the Danish by Adjunct Assistant Professor Katrine Øgaard Jensen '17. The book is now available for purchase.

Several Columbia University alumni have been nominated for the Writers Guild of America’s 2022 WGA Awards in the categories of television, new media, news, and radio/audio. They are: Jacey Heldrich ’13, Eric Tuchman ’87, Brysen Boyd '20, Ashley Lyle ’07 (CC ’02), Lucia Aniello (CC '04), and Sasha Stewart (CC '09).

The National Book Critics Circle recently announced a list of 30 finalists for the National Book Critics Circle Awards.
