Flight by Professor and alumna Lynn Steger Strong '14 will be published by HarperCollins this November. The book is now available for pre-order.
Strong's latest novel follows a family gathering in upstate New York during Christmas after the death of the family's mother. Old resentments arise as siblings Henry, Kate, and Martin and their spouses attempt to perform holiday rituals and settle their mother's estate. As tensions grow, the group must come together to help a local mother and daughter.
Author Cynthia D'Aprix-Sweeney stated, "With razor-sharp pacing and luminous prose, Lynn Steger Strong aims her keen eye on the complexities of siblings, marriage, motherhood, and grief. Flight is a wonderfully alive look at the ways we try—defiantly and sometimes perilously—to love one another."
Writer Rumaan Alam also praised the novel: "Flight probes deeply into grief and its aftershocks, what binds us to one another, the meaning of art itself….Suspenseful, dazzling, and moving."
Lynn Steger Strong is also the author of the novels Hold Still (Liveright, 2016) and Want (Henry Holt & Co., 2020). Her non-fiction has appeared in the New York Times, New York Magazine, The New Republic, Harper's Bazaar, The Los Angeles Times, and elsewhere.
