Visual Arts - COVID-19 MFA Studio Email

Dear Class of 2020 and 2021,

I am writing with an update. We’ve learned that University Facilities will need the remainder of the summer to prepare Prentis and Watson Halls to re-open in the fall with enhanced filtration and ventilation to address the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Therefore, to assist the Class of 2020 to move out of the studios by the August 14 deadline (we have extended the deadline from August 9 to August 14) and the Class of 2021 to move into their studios starting August 24 (or as soon as it is safe to do so), while maintaining the required low-density, we must establish a staggered schedule of moves.

Class of 2020: Please complete the online poll below as soon as possible, but no later than July 24, to help us to create a staggered move-out schedule.

If you cannot get to the NY area to move your art work and personal items to a new location, and/or if you need to store your items temporarily until you can return to NY, the School will provide a subsidy to assist with moving and temporary storage. Columbia has set up strict safety protocols for vendors who come onto campus. If you need assistance, the department will provide you with a short list of vendors and will help to facilitate their access. 

Timeline for the studios:

July 30 - August 14: Class of 2020 Move-Out

August 17 - August 24: Studio refresh and cleaning

August 10 - 24: Rising 2nd year Lottery - Exact Day and Time TBA

August 24 - September 4: Rising 2nd years move into new spaces
