Recent Alumna Fany de la Chica '18 Performed at St. Paul's Chapel

Film alumna Fany de la Chica '18 performed in a musical performance at St. Paul’s Chapel at Columbia University along with Columbia College alumnus Jake Chapman '16 on piano and Columbia College alumna Eli Aleinikoff '16 on saxophone. The performance was a mix of flamenco with jazz.

Born in Andalusia, Fany de la Chica is a filmmaker and singer. She has studied cinematography at the School of Cinema Studies of Cataluña (Barcelona) and has a Masters of Arts in Documentary from the Royal Holloway University of London before coming to Columbia. She has received a College Emmy Award for her short film Something to Believe, and in 2018 she received the Glamour magazine New View - Girl Gaze award for The Looking Ceremony.

As a singer, Chica started composing songs at the age of fifteen and has composed melodies for her own films. She received singing lessons - jazz ensemble - with Christina Correa at Columbia. In her first album Dressed for a Sunday she mixes flamenco with jazz, hip-hop, and R&B and collaborated with Jake Chapman, Eli Aleinikoff, and musical producers Sahil Ansari and Ann Streichman.
