Please read: * Re: Important Information about Shops Use

January 11, 2021

Dear Class of 2020,

This email contains information to get you started in using the various shops later this week.  The Shops Managers will send you a follow-up email with more specifics about their shop.  Here are a few things important items:

  • First, you will need to go through the six steps of COVID protocols to be on-campus, which includes getting a negative test result from an on-campus test.  I have attached a cheat sheet to this email.  I will send your names to HR tomorrow to give you access.

  • As we mentioned in the December meeting, every space at Columbia has a maximum capacity number of users attached to it.  These capacities were created with the COVID team at school looking at the square footage of the space and how it is being used.  To use a space in one of the Shops, you will need to reserve a time through the Robin check out system.

  • You should already be trained for the Shop that you have asked to use; however, each area will go through a brief COVID protocol training with you in the Shop prior to using.  Some of the previous rules have changed and the Shops Managers will go through these changes with you.

  •  The Wood, Metal, Ceramics, and Print Shops have reduced hours.  As we move forward, it is important that we balance everyone’s need for access.

  • If you have any outstanding fees for a specific shop, these need to be paid before you can use it.

  • You will need to be self-sufficient on the activities that you are doing within the Shop.  For instance, if you do not know how to develop and print film in the darkroom, we do not have the staff presence to teach these skills right now.

  • Only approved individuals that have gone through the COVID testing protocols are allowed on campus (no visitors).

  • Each area will have more information about what materials are available and what you need to bring.  We will be in touch with you about specific storage solutions.

  • Shop access ends two weeks prior to the start of install.  The install schedule will be sent out this week.  It is being finalized right now.

The Shop Managers will be in touch with you about more specific information as it relates to each area.  They will also show you how to use Robin to reserve time in the shop.

Best,

Carrie
