Directing alum Benita de Wit ’16 just joined the Broadway production of Six: The Musical as the Resident Director.

Six is the story of the six wives of King Henry VIII. In this production, each tudor princess takes the mic to remix the history of her life in a pop rhapsody competition.

The New York Times says Six “Totally rules!” The Washington Post hails Six as “Exactly the kind of energizing, inspirational illumination this town aches for! The Broadway season got supercharged!”

Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, Six is now playing on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.

Benita expressed what it was like to work on the production, saying that “Six is a musical that feels like a pop-rock concert. It’s truly electric to be in the theatre with this show several nights a week and hear the audience go wild for these performers."

They also spoke to their role as Resident Director, saying, “I’m coming in to maintain the artistic quality of the show, to work with the cast and understudies and keep the production energized and alive every night. Between rehearsals, meetings, auditions and show watches, every day has been a little different, which is what I love about this role."

Benita de Wit (they/them) is a non-binary Australian director based in New York. They specialize in theatre, film and multidisciplinary projects. Benita is the Resident Director for Six on Broadway, the Associate Director for Bat Out of Hell and Faculty at Circle in the Square Theatre School.
