Juan Souki '07 has been named Mid Atlantic Arts’s new Executive Director. He joins the celebrated arts organization after serving as Director of Odelia Artists.

Founded in 1979, Mid Atlantic Arts is an artistic collective and arts organization whose mission is to provide programming, grants, and information to a wide variety of artists.

A graduate of the Directing concentration, Souki has previously worked for Miami New Drama, Balich Wonder Studio, and Imaginarios, among others. During his time at Odelia Artists, Souki orchestrated international tours across twenty-five US states and twelve countries around the world in an effort to connect folk artists with a wider landscape of connections. His work has a global reach and he was worked with collaborators of a wide swath of international organizations, including The National Council for the Traditional Arts in Virginia, the AfroTaino collective in Pennsylvania, Prague Quadrennial in the Czech Republic, and The Smithsonian Center for folklife and cultural heritage in Washington, D.C.

“I feel deeply inspired by the opportunity to join Mid Atlantic Arts, and the community of artists, presenters, and organizations who share the geography of the region,” Souki said. “Personally, I am moved by the contrasting heritages and traditions that continue to exist in its territories, and thrilled to be working together with the board, staff, and state agencies to strengthen networks, celebrate regional diversity, and advocate for equitable access to funding during this crucial moment of the world.”

Souki will replace Theresa Colvin as Executive Director. More information about Mid Atlantic Arts can be found here.
