Film student Aisha Amin’s movie Rumi was featured on the popular online film recommendation site, Short of the Week. The film tells the story of Rumi, an aspiring actress who is discovered by a talent agent and attends an open casting call, only to confront the problematic aspects of the industry.

"In Rumi, writer/director Aisha Amin skillfully highlights a troubling issue within the fashion industry. Her understated approach captures the emotional journey of the main character, Rumi, as she navigates this experience," writer Céline Roustan said in her Short of the Week review.

Amin was inspired to write the screenplay after noting the hypocrisy in the fashion industry's embraeing of headscarves in designer collections during Paris Fashion Week, despite the ban on religious symbols, including hijabs, in French schools. "Creating Rumi was my way of exploring what it's like to be a Muslim woman in an industry that's focused on appearances, performance, and tokenism," she told Short of the Week.

Short of the Week, founded in 2007 by Andrew Allen and Jason Sondhi, has become an important source for online film recommendations. The site seeks out and promotes new filmmakers who are creating innovative and original stories for online audiences.
