Associate Professor Hilton Als will join Princeton University this 2020-2021 academic year as an inaugural Presidential Visiting Scholar.

Writers in Collaboration is a series covering writers involved in two art mediums and/or working with other artists. This week we sat down with recent nonfiction alumna Brianna Sophia Scalesse ’20 whose literary background has helped deepen her imagination and work as a fashion model.

The Margot Affair, the debut novel by Alumna Sanaë Lemoine ’15, will be published on June 16 through Hogarth Press.

Two books by members of the Columbia community are featured in Buzzfeed’s ”29 Summer Books You Won't Be Able To Put Down”.

Alumnus Cyrée Jarelle Johnson ’19 won the Lambda Literary Award in Gay Poetry with their book Slingshot.

Current Writing student Taylor Michael was selected as the inaugural A Public Space Editorial Fellow. This new fellowship for aspiring editors aims to support the next generation of editorial talent and encourages a more diverse publishing community. She was chosen among almost 200 applications and began her work in March. 

Adjunct Associate Writing Professor Benjamin Taylor’s new memoir Here We Are: My Friendship with Philip Roth was published by Penguin Random House on May 19, 2020 to much praise. 

We recently spoke with novelist and Associate Professor of Writing Gary Shteyngart, author of Super Sad True Love Story, The Russian Debutante’s Handbook, Absurdistan, Little Failure, and Lake Success, which the BBC called “biting, edgy, often hilarious.”

Monique Truong, an adjunct associate professor in the writing program, recently won the 2020 John Gardner Fiction Book Award for her novel The Sweetest Fruits.

Writing alumna Jayme Koszyn ’18 was named a finalist in Fish Publications Flash Fiction Short List for her flash fiction short story, “In the Here and Now.” Out of the 1,238 stories submitted, only fifty made it to the short-list.

This July, Finishing Line Press will publish a new collection of poems by writing alumna Alison Woods ’96, titled Bless This Home.
