The Poetry Foundation and Poetry magazine announced September 10, 2020 that Alumnus Cyrée Jarelle Johnson '19 is among the five winners of the 2020 Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship.

On Sep. 15, the novel The New Wilderness by Writing alumna Diane Cook ’12 joined the 2020 Man Booker Prize shortlist, having made the longlist earlier this summer.

Alumnus Jeff Elzinga '78 recently released his debut novel, The Distance Between Stars, through Water's Edge Press. The book is available for purchase here.

Professor and alumna from the Journalism program Margo Jefferson ’71 sat down with Associate Professor Deborah Paredez and 19th U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey for a poetry reading and conversation reflecting on memory and the role we call daughter. 

Alumnus Franz Nicolay '18 recently announced that his second book and first novel, Someone Should Pay for Your Pain, will be released in April 2021 by Gibson House Press.

This October, alumni Chris Molnar ’18 and Etan Nechin ’19 will publish Unpublishable, a collection from their notorious underground reading series of the same name at the POWERHOUSE ARENA. 

The Dark Heart of Every Wild Thing, the new novel by alumnus and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Undergraduate Creative Writing Joseph Fasano '08, was released by Platypus Press on September 1.

Just Us: An American Conversation, the new Literary Collection by Writing alumna Claudia Rankine ’93, was released on September 8 by Graywolf Press.

Recent alumna Lisa Foad ’20 has been named a finalist for the 2020 Writers’ Trust/McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize for her short story “Hunting.” 

Four Way Books will publish The Life Assignment by alumni Ricardo Alberto Maldonado ’08 this September.

This Is Why They Hate Us by recent alumnus Aaron H. Aceves ‘20 was acquired by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers for spring 2022 publication. This is Aceves’s debut novel.

Assistant Professor of poetry Shane McCrae recently published Sometimes I Never Suffered through FSG.
