Getting Ready for Registration 1

November 23, 2020

Hello First Year Students,

Be sure to use some time prior to December 1 to think about your spring schedule and what balance of courses will work best for you in your time zone.  Please also check SSOL for holds on your account and try to get them resolved before registration opens on 12/1.  Remember that registration is a weeks long process and that you will have additional registration appointments in January to revise your registration.  Enrollment in courses will fluctuate, so it pays to keep an eye on any courses you are interested in, as seats frequently do become available.

1) This week I will be working with other staff to place you into 9 credits of required workshops, following these principles:

Screenwriting II - new Scr instructor, scheduling preference (when possible)

Directing II - new Dir instructor, scheduling preference (when possible)

Script to Screen - different instructor than Scr I if possible, scheduling preference (when possible)

Practical Production II - scheduling preference (when possible)

If you have a hold on your account, we cannot register you until it is removed, but we will be able to hold spaces for you in your assigned sections.

2) Beginning December 1, you can add electives during your SSOL appointment times (up to 18 total credits) that work with your required workshop schedule.

Recommended electives you can add yourself using SSOL beginning Dec 1:

Secrets of the Short Film (Mon 2-5, call # 16600)

Analysis of Film Language (asynchronous film screening possible for students with schedule issues, Thurs 1:30 - 5:15pm, call # 13897)

Directing Actors II (will be offered in hybrid format, Tues, various times, see DOC for day/time info and call numbers)

Use the Directory of Classes to identify other courses you might be interested in.  When you click to get the detail in Vergil on a particular course, it will show which schools have permission to register.  If SOA is listed, you should be able to register online.  If SOA is not listed, you may need to seek instructor or department permission to register for the class.  For these transactions, you will need to fill out a Registration Adjustment Form, get permission from the instructor/department and then send the form to me for approval.  It will then go to Student Affairs to get you registered.
