What is Columbia Selects? Columbia Selects is an alumni reading series hosted by the Columbia MFA Writing Program. In recent years, many of our featured writers have achieved critical and commercial success. This is your chance to glimpse who you'll be reading in 2025!
Gnaomi Siemens '18 is a writer and translator based in New York City. Her work can be found in The Believer, Slice Magazine, Words Without Borders, Portland Review, The American Journal of Poetry, and Action, Spectacle, and other publications in the US and abroad. She has been awarded residencies by The British Library in London, The Poetry Society of New York, The Vermont Studio Center, Millay Arts, and was an ALTA Travel Fellow. Her manuscript, The Errant, was a finalist for The X. J. Kennedy Poetry Prize.
Eyal Cohen '21 is a nonfiction writer based in New York City. Born in Israel, he played Division I soccer in college, after which he worked as a middle school teacher before obtaining his Writing MFA from Columbia University. He’s currently looking for a home for his completed manuscript: a book-length essay about how men understand, withhold, and externalize love. Given his love of sports, bell hooks, and being the little spoon, he feels he is the perfect person to write this book. His writing has appeared in TulipTree Review, his own website, and his grandmother’s Facebook.
Leila Mohr '20 holds an MFA from Columbia University and a BA from Sarah Lawrence College. The recipient of a NYSCA/NYFA fellowship in fiction from the New York Foundation for the Arts, her work can be found in The Gettysburg Review and elsewhere. She is currently working on a collection of short stories and a memoir.
