Simon Liu
Simon Liu is an artist filmmaker whose practice centers on the rapidly evolving psychological and political landscapes of his homeland of Hong Kong through material abstraction, speculative history, and subversion of documentary cinema practices. His films, performances, and installations have been presented globally at institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, MOCA LA, Whitney Museum, Moderna Museet, PICA, The Shed, Tai Kwun, and the M+ Museum; and with film festivals such as the New York, Toronto, Berlin, Sundance, Rotterdam, Jeonju, Edinburgh, BFI London, and Hong Kong International Film Festivals. Profiles of his practice have featured in publications such as Art in America, MUBI, Cinemascope, and the New York Times. His work is in the permanent collections of the M+ Museum, Centro Pecci, and MoMA. Liu is also a teacher at Cooper Union and a member of the artist-run film lab Negativeland.
