Robyn Hunt has acted professionally in the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan. She worked for over a decade with Tadashi Suzuki, performed in Tokyo and Kanazawa in OPIUM, a joint Pacific Performance Project/Theatre Group TAO production under the direction of Kenji Suzuki, and studied and performed in Kyoto under the direction of Shogo Ohta. Between 1994 and 2000, she performed at the Actors Theatre of Louisville in Hamlet(Gertrude), Othello (Emilia), Romeo and Juliet (Lady Capulet), Triumph of Love (Leontine) and Heartbreak House (Hesione) under the direction of Jon Jory.
In 2001, she received a University of Washington Distinguished Teacher award, and in 2013—2021 at UofSC, she held a Carolina Distinguished Professor Endowed Chair. Acting roles include Dotty in Noises Off, the title role in Mother Courage (Connecticut and Seattle), Ranevskaya in Gravity(Seattle Playhouse, and the Connelly Theatre, NYC) and in The Cherry Orchard Sequel at LaMama. Other acting roles include Serafina in The Suicide, Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream, multiple roles in Black Snow, Elsa in Days and Nights Within, Zaira in Grand Magic Act (ACT, Seattle), and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth (Intiman Theatre, Seattle). Hunt performed in the New York debut of Peter Kyle Dance Company in To What Extent at the Henry Street Settlement/Abrons Arts Center, and danced in another Peter Kyle work, Going. She has created several evening length dance/theatre pieces, including the trilogy Suite for Strangers, which had its debut in Seattle. Other dance/theatre collaborations with Peter Kyle and Steve Pearson include: Myran's War, Prix Fixe, Shogo Ohta’s The Water Station (Mizu No Eki), and Stories of Dislocation (MassMoca). She wrote and performed in Flight in Illinois, South Carolina, Michigan, Maine, and at the Connelly in New York. She appears in American Theatre Magazine in the January 2008 article “Shaping the Independent Actor,” in the winter 2012 Gia Reader, “An Artist Examines the Intersection of Creating and Teaching,” and in Theatre Forum, fall 2000, in two articles on the project Opium in Japan. She performed at Dance New Amsterdam in Nancy Bannon’s The Pod Project, and later as Cherish in Bannon’s Drinking Ink at the 92nd Street Y. She co-heads Pacific Performance Project/East (p3east.com), now based on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
