Hector Prats

Hector Prats is a film director and screenwriter born in Barcelona, Spain, now based in New York City. He began his career as a film critic and youth jury member at film festivals while collaborating on independent productions in various roles. His early work directing music videos for artists like Roosevelt and Viva Suecia earned him MTV nominations and festival awards, leading to his transition into commercial directing. He is currently represented by the production company and creative agency Iconoclast.

With the support of the prestigious La Caixa Fellowship, Hector earned his MFA in Film Directing at Columbia University. His short films have gained significant recognition on the festival circuit. Heaven is Nobody’s premiered at the Atlanta Film Festival and screened at HollyShorts and the New Orleans Film Festival in 2024. Enloquecer was featured at Palm Springs ShortFest and Nitehawk Festival in 2022, received an Honorable Mention for Best Narrative Short Film at Tacoma Film Festival, and earned a Vimeo Staff Pick after premiering online via Short of the Week.

His latest short film, El Silencio Loco, was supported by the Indian Paintbrush Production Grant, the School of the Arts Dean’s Project Grant, and a Tarragona local grant. Starring Elena Martín and Amadou Mbow, both recognized at the Cannes Film Festival, the film is set to start its festival life in 2025.

Hector has also contributed to film education, teaching the Fiction Filmmaking Lab to undergraduate students at Columbia University and currently instructing the Advanced Film Production Practice course as an Adjunct Professor, and collaborating as a Directing Instructor at the non-profit film school for teenagers ReelWorks in Brooklyn. He continues to develop his craft, currently working on his feature film A Time to Dance.
