Mikhaela Mahony ’19 is the director of the New York premiere of Redwood, premiering in October at Off-Broadway’s Ensemble Studio Theatre.

Written by Brittany K. Allen, who also stars in the play, Redwood is a comedy that looks at an interracial American couple discovering a disturbing family genealogy, and considers “the project of interracial family-making in a haunted country.” Redwood had its world premiere at Portland Center Stage in 2019, and was originally slated to open at Ensemble Studio Theatre in April 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A member of Ensemble Studio Theatre, Mahony has worked in opera and film as well as theatre (both classical and contemporary), and is a frequent collaborator of Ensemble Studio Theater’s OBIE-winning writer’s lab, the EST/Youngblood Program. Currently based in Brooklyn, Mahony graduated from Columbia’s Directing MFA program after completing her undergraduate degree at Barnard College. She was recently appointed Director of Opera at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts.

Redwood runs at the Ensemble Studio Theatre from October 18 to November 12, 2023. Tickets can be purchased here.
