Acting alumnus Dave Klasko ’12 joins the cast of Anna Ziegler’s The Wanderers alongside Katie Holmes, Sarah Cooper, Lucy Freyer, and Eddie Kaye Thomas. The play’s New York premiere began previews on January 26 at the Laura Pels Theatre, with the official opening date set for February 16, 2023.

Klasko plays Schmuli, an Orthodox Jewish man newly married to his wife Esther (Freyer); the couple’s future is laid out for them in the laws of the Torah. Meanwhile, secular Jew Abe (Thomas) is a famous novelist who believes in writing his own future. A surprising email from movie star Julia Cheever (Holmes) puts stress on Abe’s marriage and threatens his beliefs in a future constructed by his own free will. The Wanderers examines different cultures and challenges two very different couples with the same question: can we be happy with what we have while we have it?

The New York premiere of The Wanderers is directed by Barry Edelstein. It was previously developed and produced in 2018 at The Old Globe in San Diego, California, where Edelstein is the Artistic Director and also served as the director for the production.

Dave Klasko is a Brooklyn-based actor. He will make his Roundabout Theatre debut with this production of The Wanderers. Some of his recent theatre credits include King Lear (Shakespeare in the Park), Gordy Crashes (New York Innovative Theatre Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Lead Role); numerous projects at the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, and Movies on Demand (Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre). Klasko studied Film and American Studies at Brandeis University before earning his MFA at Columbia. He can also be seen in film and television projects, including several national commercials and the horror film Child Eater. Klasko regularly performs in comedy shows and sketches.

Tickets for The Wanderers can be found here. Performances run through March 26, 2023.
