Columbia@Roundabout New Play Reading Series Produces Three Play Readings

Columbia University School of the Arts and Roundabout Theatre Company announced the winners of Columbia@Roundabout's 2019 New Play Reading Series. The reading series awards three playwrights from the current MFA class and recent alumni with a monetary prize as well as a reading produced by Roundabout. Five additional plays were selected as finalists and awarded a monetary prize.

The winners of the 2019 New Play Reading series were The Venetians by Matt Barbot ’17Black Garden by Gordon Penn ’18, and The Colony by Gina Stevensen ’18. Each play received a staged reading and the playwright was awarded a mentorship by Columbia faculty members David Henry HwangLynn Nottage, and Charles L. Mee. Plays were stage managed by alumna Ali Simone ’19

Finalists include Field, Awakening by Melis Aker ’182076 by Elisabeth Frankel ’19Sweet Pee by Dayoung Jeong ’17Not Even God by Devon Kidd ’21 and Spin by Adam North ’21

Columbia@Roundabout’s 2019 New Play Reading Series is made possible by a generous grant from the Tow Foundation. The New Play Reading Series took place from September 23 to September 25 and was presented to an audience of invited guests and friends of Columbia and Roundabout.
