Adjunct Assistant Professor Michael Cacioppo has participated in the launch of the Hulu/ESPN Series Algiers, America as the online editor. Assisting him in post-production was the team at Dungeon Beach run by Film alumnus Jeff Sousa ’10.

Algiers, America offers viewers an intimate portrayal of Coach Brice Brown and the spirit of the Edna Karr Cougars football team as they chase a fifth state championship in six seasons. The primarily Black team and coaching staff rank among the top in the nation. Nearly every player has experienced the loss of teammates, friends, or relatives to either gun violence or incarceration.

To Coach Brice Brown, whose father was murdered on the streets of Algiers, winning is not the most crucial part of his job. His priority is keeping his players alive until they graduate. As guns become the country’s leading cause of child deaths, Algiers, America provides a candid and captivating portrait of a community fighting to stem the tide.

Michael Cacioppo is an audiovisual artist, sound designer, composer and technical specialist with a wide range of professional experience in the sonic and visual arts. His technical expertise in audio and video post production is notable through his work with the European Broadcasting Union during 6 Olympic Games and 2 World Alpine Ski Championships.

Jeff Sousa is a co-owner and colorist at Dungeon Beach, a boutique post house in Brooklyn that offers online editing, conform, color grading, visual effects, audio mixing, sound design, and DCP services under one roof.
