Michael Cacioppo Belantara

Michael is an audiovisual artist, sound designer, composer, and technical specialist with extensive experience in the sonic and visual arts. His technical expertise in audio and video post-production is highlighted by his work with the European Broadcasting Union during 6 Olympic Games and 2 World Alpine Ski Championships, as well as his high-end television and film credits as a sound designer, composer, online editor, and post-production supervisor.

He co-founded Alchemist Post Solutions, an active NYC-based post-production company, with successful deliveries to HBO, Starz, Netflix, Amazon, TIFF, Telluride, Venice, Cannes, Berlin, SXSW, and more. Recent credits include Good Boy (2025), The Gymnast (2024), The Faceless Lady (2024), Antarctic Voyage (2024), Algiers America (2023), Stay Awake (2022), The Last Election (2021), Murmurs (2020), South Mountain (2019), King of Beers (2019), Mafak/Screwdriver (2018), Chapter and Verse (2017), and Epizoda? (2016).

Michael’s sound design is featured in Universal Ear, a serial sci-fi adventure from L’Institute Zoom, one of several collaborations with director Graeme Cole. He also handled sound design and mixing for One Day Film’s award-winning release The Raven on the Jetty (2015). Additionally, he provided sound mixing for Amanda Belantara’s films Lifelibrary (2008), 耳がきゅっとなる Ears are Dazzled, touched by sound (2009), and そのとき Moments (2010) and for her projects and installations Ways of Knowing, Sounding The Radical Catalog and https://www.ruleno5.org

An Avid Media Composer, Pro Tools, and DaVinci Resolve certified instructor, Michael is currently the Post Production Supervisor and Assistant Director of Technology for Columbia University School of the Arts. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Post Production for the Columbia University Graduate Film Program and co-designer and co-founder of the MFA Film Program’s Tech Arts and Post Production Curriculum.

As a founding member of the sonic art collective Kinokophone, Michael has participated in international collaborations with the British Library, The Whitworth Art Gallery, and the New York Public Library. He serves on the Learning and Teaching Committee for Futureworks Creative Media School in Manchester, UK, and is a member of the Avid ACA TV & Film Committee, AES, and SMPTE.

Michael holds a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Technology Management with a focus on Entertainment Technology and Immersive Media from Columbia University School of Professional Studies and a Bachelor's Degree in Ethnic Studies with a focus on World Music from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
