MACHINE VISION(S): Lecture Series

As far back as Walter Benjamin’s “work of art in the age of mechanical reproduction” (1935), photography has been challenged by mechanical means of image processing. Artists and institutions have first resisted and then (mostly) embraced each of these changes. This lecture series brings in speakers from visual arts, technology, and law to explore questions related to the idea of “machine vision” or “camera eye.”

MACHINE VISION(S) is a lecture series organized by Naeem Mohaiemen, Associate Professor of Visual Arts and Concentration Head of Photography at the School of Arts at Columbia University. This lecture series is supported by Google's Artists + Machine Intelligence Research Award and the Office Of The Provost at Columbia University. It is complemented by the class Artificial Intelligence & Photography, taught by Professor Mohaiemen at the School of the Arts.
