As part of a speaker series related to the class Artificial Intelligence & Photography (VIAR 1603), Visual Arts Department presents a talk by Jake Harper and Amol Kapoor of SOOT.

Jake Harper is the co-founder and CEO of SOOT, where he focuses on the self-organizing principles of nature and their application in technology. His career primarily unfolded in the realm of sound art, with his works being showcased in museums and institutions globally. Prior to founding SOOT, he directed the social robotics design lab at Zoox, a San Francisco-based autonomous vehicle company.

Amol Kapoor is CTO and co-founder of SOOT. He has spent the last decade working with deep neural networks. Before SOOT, he was at Google Research, where he worked on graph neural networks, computer vision, turning 2D into 3D, and trying to teach robot dogs how to walk.

SOOT is an AI based visual filesystem for creative work. Organize visual content at the speed of thought - by color, similarity, concept or object.

The talk is organized by Naeem Mohaiemen, Associate Professor of Visual Arts, and supported by supported by Google's Artists + Machine Intelligence Research Award and by Office Of The Provost, Columbia University.
