Theatre alumna Ashley Tata ’12 is the director of Con Alma, a live digital performance of classic songs from the Mexican and Jazz tradition and original works by composer Paola Prestini and vocalist and composer Magos Herrera.

Adjunct Assistant Professor Kate Loewald , Founding Producer of The Play Company (PlayCo), and Theatre alumna Annie Wang ’20, PlayCo’s Communications and Marketing Manager, will assist in the presentation of the virtual performance This Is Who I Am via PlayCo’s collaboration with Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company.

Theatre alumnus Benita de Wit ’16 will direct a virtual production of the musical documentary One More Thing Not to Think About: A Sondheim Project for the Post Theatre Company (PTC) of LIU Post.

Alumna Gina Stevenson ’18 was announced as a finalist for the 2020 Theatre503 International Playwriting Award. Stevenson was nominated alongside Ayad Andrews, Pravin Wilkins, Safaa Benson-Effiom and Zoe Ashford Cooper. 

Playwriting student Ellis Stump’s one-act play series The People’s Toast has been published in print by Vaclav Havel Library Foundation as the winner of their 2019 Playwriting Competition. Copies are available at Vaclav Havel’s New York City library and in local bookstores. 

Theatre alumna Mikhael Tara Garver ’10 created Rio Reveals, a series of immersive entertainment experiences that will raise funds for River L.A., a nonprofit dedicated to revitalizing the Los Angeles River and encouraging community engagement with it. 

Music’s biggest night will feature the works of many Columbia faculty and alumni. 

Alumna Pirronne Yousefzadeh ’09 was named a finalist for the 2020 Zelda Fichandler Award, an award which recognizes directors and choreographers who have demonstrated great accomplishment to-date with singular creativity and deep investment in a particular community. 

Associate Professor Lynn Nottage joined Isabel Wilkerson in conversation last week as part of the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s (BAM) series of virtual events. 

Keene by Alumna Anchuli Felicia King ’18 recently presented an online reading at Red Bull Theatre in conjunction with American Shakespeare Center. Keene is billed as an ode to always being the second-class genius of color, the play riffs on early-career academia, Shakespeare’s Othello, and the power of American pop.
