Playwriting alumni Johnny Lloyd ’20 and Max Mondi ’18 will participate in The Tank’s Rule of 7x7, an ongoing series that presents seven new short plays by seven writers. At the start of every round, each writer contributes a new rule, anything from the mention of a celebrity to an action on a certain page, and all writers must incorporate all of the rules into their plays. The series was created and produced by Brett Epstein, who will also host.

Founded in 2003 and led by Artistic Director Meghan Finn and Managing Producer Danielle Monica Long King, The Tank is a non-profit that presents and produces works from a range of artistic disciplines: theatre, comedy, dance, film, music, puppetry, and storytelling. The Tank “champions emerging artists engaged in the pursuit of new ideas and forms of expression.” To that end, the organization provides financial support for artists creating new and experimental work.

Lloyd is Producing Director for InVersion Theatre based in New York City and Director of Artistic Development at The Tank. He has been a house writer for Salon Seance and a staff writer for Mañanaland. Lloyd’s other playwriting credits include Or, An Astronaut Play at The Tank; Round at the Samuel French Off-Off-Broadway Short Play Festival; Patience at The Corkscrew Festival and Columbia University; It’s a Ghost Story with Homebase Theatre Collective; In the Woods We Return in Fringe NYC; Birthday, Birthday BirthdayThe Problem with Magic Is:, Ruination; and Strip Hearts.

Lloyd’s play The Problem with Magic Is: was a finalist for the 2020 Columbia@Roundabout Series. He has also been a semi-finalist for 2020-2021 Playwrights Realm Writing Fellowship, the 2018 Clubbed Thumb Open Commission, and the 2014 National Playwrights Conference.

Mondi’s playwriting credits include Maybe Tomorrow (Winner of Overall Excellence in a Play at FringeNYC 2015, Kitchen Dog Theatre New Play Festival Finalist 2019, O'Neill Semi-Finalist 2017), House of Karen (O'Neill Semi-Finalist 2019, Bay Area Playwrights Festival 2019), Personhood and The Coming. Additionally, he has developed work with Orchard Project, HERE, The PIT, SoHo Playhouse, Dixon Place, Abingdon Theatre Company, Project Y Theatre, Isle of Shoals, and Fresh Ink Theatre. He is the creator and writer of the television show You Follow Me, which will begin production in 2021.
