Undergraduate Film and Media Studies student Atish Saha recently worked as director of photography on the Bengali film, Peyarar Subhash (The Scent of Sin), which premiered last year at the Moscow Film Festival and recently had its New York premiere in February 2024.

Directed by Nurual Alam Atique, the film explores the patriarchal structures of Bengali culture, focusing on a woman who resists her arranged marriage to an elderly coffin maker.

The movie's production started in 2016 but only recently finalized its post production and obtained its censor certificate from the Bangladesh Film Censor Board. It has since been released in 27 theaters across the country and will soon be released on the Bangladeshi streaming platform Chorki Film

According to Saha, “The film set of Peyarar Suabsh was like a second home early in my career. It shaped me in ways I couldn't have imagined then and continues to influence my work. I'm excited to see how much I'll grow from the lessons learned there in the years ahead."
