Film alum Sean Mullin '06 is the writer-director of a new comedy, Best Divorce Ever, starring and produced by Emmy Award-winning comedian and actor Amy Schumer. Concourse Media will launch worldwide sales for the film in Toronto next month.
Best Divorce Ever follows Clarissa (Schumer) and Franklin, who, after 20 years together, decide they’re done with marriage—but not with each other. Determined to pull off the world’s most amicable divorce, they throw an “Untying the Knot” party and embrace their newly single lives. But when disastrous dates, suspicious children, and misguided attempts at “conscious uncoupling” throw their plans into chaos, they discover that getting divorced is the easy part. Figuring out how to stay a happy family is where things get complicated.
“Sean has written a smart, funny script with a ton of heart and gives Amy a great playground to do what she does best,” said Matthew Shreder, CEO of Concourse Media. “It feels like exactly the kind of commercial comedy audiences are ready for, and we’re thrilled to be part of it.”
Inspired by his own amicable divorce, Mullin hopes to challenge conventional ideas about ending a marriage. “Divorce has a branding problem,” he said. “I think we need to change the narrative that the only successful way to end a marriage is for one person to die.”
Mullin is an award-winning filmmaker. He has written, directed, and produced seven films that received theatrical releases. His critically acclaimed feature film debut as a writer/director, Amira & Sam, won the top prize at numerous festivals and was distributed theatrically by Drafthouse Films in 2015. His documentary about baseball legend Yogi Berra, It Ain’t Over, received a theatrical release from Sony Pictures Classics in 2023. It is one of the best-reviewed sports documentaries of all time, and it was nominated for two Critics’ Choice Awards and a Writers Guild Award.
