Skyler Melnick '24 Named Center for Fiction Emerging Writer Fellow

Writing alum Skyler Melnick '24 has been selected as a Center For Fiction / Susan Kamil 2026 Emerging Writer Fellow. Each year, the Center for Fiction selects nine early-career, New-York-based writers for their fellowship program and provides a grant of $5,000, the opportunity to meet editors and agents, and to give readings. This year, the program received over 1,000 applications. 

“I’m thrilled to be a Center for Fiction fellow,” Melnick said, “Looking forward to what the year has in store!”

The Center for Fiction is a literary nonprofit in Downtown Brooklyn dedicated to promoting works of fiction. Along with the Emerging Writer fellowship, the Center for Fiction also awards Lifetime of Excellence in Fiction Awards and the First Novel Prize.

Skyler Melnick received her MFA in Fiction from Columbia University. Her work appears in Fairy Tale ReviewWigleafBest Microfiction 2025, and elsewhere, with support from Yaddo, Vermont Studio Center, and Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. Her story “To the Tower” was awarded first place in Fractured Lit’s 2024 Ghosts, Fables & Fairy Tales contest.
