Associate Professor and Co-Concentration Head of the Writing for Film and Television concentration Blair Singer has secured a script commitment at Fox for a television adaptation of the bestselling novel Cold Blooded Liar by Karen Rose. Singer will write and executive produce the project.
The one-hour procedural mystery thriller will follow strong-willed homicide detective Kit McKittrick, who uses her ferocious determination and heightened empathy from her foster kid background to solve San Diego's most chilling murder cases. When a kindhearted psychologist named Sam Reeves encounters a pathological liar patient who reveals plausible details about an unsolved serial murder case, the two professionals find themselves reluctantly working together to track down a dangerous killer.
The series is based on the first title in Rose's San Diego Case Files series, published by Penguin in 2023. Library Journal gave the novel a starred review, noting that "Rose gives her audience many impressive costars and a diabolical villain, leaving even the savviest of readers on pins and needles throughout the novel and absolutely shocked at the ending."
Singer's television credits include serving as co-executive producer on the final season of Bull on CBS and on Fox's Filthy Rich, starring Kim Cattrall. He was the supervising producer on the Netflix show What/If, created by Mike Kelley and starring Renée Zellweger, and executive produced and ran the Mark Gordon-produced Youth & Consequences for YouTube Premium, which received a digital Emmy nomination for Best Drama in 2019.
