Playwriting Student Ellis Stump Named a 2021 Ascending Playwright

Playwriting student Ellis Stump ’23 has been named one of the Ascending Playwrights of 2021 at Yonder Window Theatre Company in Brooklyn, New York. 

The Ascending Playwrights Program is a mentorship opportunity for new and emerging playwrights. Playwrights benefit from a digital reading of their play featuring professional actors; a mentorship session with the company’s Playwright in Residence, Grand MacDermott;  social media support; and a possible $1,000 cash prize based on artistic growth during the mentorship period.

Ellis was featured in a School of the Arts interview series, “The Playwright’s Room,” where she discussed her first experience of theatre and the work that has influenced her most as an artist. The feature can be read and enjoyed here.

Ellis Stump (she/they) is an NYC-based theatre maker. They’ve lived in India, written teen-oriented television in Berlin, and earned full-length off-Broadway productions, awards, and funded playwriting residencies in Prague and Canada.
