Lucia Aniello (CC '04) Wins DGA Award for Comedy Direction
Lucia Aniello (CC '04) has won the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series for the "Bulletproof" episode of HBO Max's Hacks.
The series, which Aniello co-created, continues to garner praise in its third season, with Jean Smart's leading performance as a legendary Las Vegas comedian earning particular recognition. This marks Aniello's second DGA win for the series, following her 2021 victory for directing the pilot.
Founded in 1936, the Directors Guild of America represents more than 18,000 directors and members. The DGA Awards, established in 1948, have become one of the industry's leading predictors of Academy Award success, particularly in the directing category.

Three Columbia alumni have received nominations for the 77th Directors Guild of America Awards.
In his latest in a string of exciting nominations and accolades, Film alum James Mangold '99 has been nominated for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film for A Complete Unknown. The Bob Dylan biopic, starring Timothée Chalamet, chronicles Dylan's controversial transition from folk to rock music in the mid-1960s. The film has emerged as a major awards contender, earning eight Academy Award nominations including Best Director and Best Actor for Chalamet's portrayal of the iconic musician. In addition to the Academy Awards, A Complete Unknown has received nominations at this year’s Golden Globe Awards, Critics Choice Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and British Academy Film Awards. This is Mangold's first DGA nomination.
Jonathan van Tulleken '10 received a nomination in the Dramatic Series category for his work directing "Anjin," the pilot episode of FX's Shōgun. The ambitious historical epic, based on James Clavell's novel, follows an English sailor's journey through feudal Japan. Van Tulleken helped establish the show's striking visual style, which has earned widespread critical recognition, including a record-breaking 18 Emmy Awards.
