Mangold first came to Cannes in 1995 with his film Heavy as part of the Directors’ Fortnight. Returning to Cannes for the premiere of his take of Indiana Jones made for a special night:

“Merci, I just wanted to say thank you, thank you so much for having us here,” Mangold said, as reported by Deadline. “One thing that was true then [when he first came to Cannes] and true now is that this film was made by friends. It’s probably hard for you to believe that a movie this big can be made by friends, but it was. It was made out of love, it was made out of devotion to what came before it, and it was made with tremendous trust from all these people.”

Harrison Ford (Blade Runner, Star Wars, Witness) reprises his legendary role as archaeologist-turned-adventurer Indiana Jones. The rest of the star-studded cast includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Crashing, Killing Eve), Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round, Hannibal, Casino Royale), Antonio Banderas (The Mask of Zorro, Desperado), Shaunette Renée Wilson (Black Panther, The Resident), Boyd Holbrook (Narcos, The Sandman), and more.

John Williams, who has scored each and every Indiana Jones adventure since the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), also returns as the composer for the final film. You can watch a special short featurette on William’s iconic score for the franchise here.

In Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Ford’s Indy races against time to retrieve a legendary dial that can change the course of history. Accompanied by his goddaughter (Waller-Bridge), he soon finds himself squaring off against Jürgen Voller (Mikkelsen), a former Nazi who works for NASA.
