Four Columbia filmmakers will screen their films at the Indy Shorts International Film Festival in Indianapolis this July 22–27. More than 250 short films will be featured in the weeklong event, which is an Academy Award-qualifying festival.

Every Man in New York is Named Andrew, a film written and directed by Nora Marris '25 and produced by Helēna Šania Volbeta '25, will be making its world premiere at Indy Shorts. The film follows Margo, who has never been in a relationship, and each time she tries, she just meets another guy named Andrew.

Christopher Radcliff '09 directed We Were the Scenery, which won the Short Film Jury Award for Non-Fiction at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. The documentary short shares the stories of Vietnam War refugees Hoa Thi Le and Hue Nguyen Che, who were used as extras in Apocalypse Now after fleeing to the Philippines.

Her Fight, His Name: The Story of Gwen Carr and Eric Garner shows a mother’s yearslong battle for justice for her son. Filmed over six years, the documentary centers Carr in her home as she continues her fight. The short was directed by Brad Bailey (GSAS '19) and lead produced by Jered Everson (CC '19) and Deanna Cuadra (CC '20).

In recent years, 39 Oscar nominations and 10 wins have been awarded to films screened at Indy Shorts. “Indy Shorts has built an internationally-renowned grassroots reputation for strong thematic programming, top tier hospitality and creating a summer camp atmosphere where filmmakers become fast friends and long-lasting collaborators,” Heartland Film Artistic Director Greg Sorvig said in Deadline.
