Undergraduate Film alumnus Asher Grodman '10 (CC) has landed a starring role on Ghosts, a new comedy from CBS. Grodman studied Film under acclaimed Professor Annette Insdorf during his time as an undergraduate at Columbia University.

In Ghosts, a young couple's dreams come true when they inherit a beautiful country house. However, they’re in for quite the surprise when they discover that it's not only falling apart, but also inhabited by many of the deceased previous residents. The show is an adaptation of a popular British series of the same name, which is currently in its third season.

Grodman stars as Trevor, a “finance bro” who died at the upstate mansion in 1990. He is one of the more modern ghosts to inhabit the mansion, and, notably, he has spent his afterlife pantsless. The character’s origin story was finally revealed in a recent episode, and the reveal even took Grodman by surprise:

“I didn’t see it coming,” Grodman told TheWrap. “Our creators, Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, and our writers room are really good at finding these very funny and accessible things but then also turning on a dime and making something that can feel very light, suddenly poignant. The pants are a perfect example.”

The comedy has a faithful following, the show already being confirmed for a second season. One self-proclaimed fan is none other than Star Wars superstar Mark Hamill, who celebrated news of the show’s renewal on Twitter.

“It’s just surreal because there are people in this world who are actors, and then there are people [whose] imprint on culture just exceeds a movie or storytelling in and of itself. And Mark Hamill is obviously one of those people,” Grodman told TheWrap. “So it’s a surreal, incredibly heartwarming, humbling experience. He went on a kindness spree, and we were lucky to be part of it. Then he went the next day and wrote each of us individual tweets. I mean, it’s just crazy.”
