Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC) has announced that Golden Shield, written by Dramaturgy alumna Anchuli Felicia King ’18 and directed by Danya Taymor, will have its American Off-Broadway premiere in 2021—22. The performance dates will be announced at a later date, dependent on the state of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Adjunct Assistant Professor Kate Loewald , Founding Producer of The Play Company (PlayCo), and Theatre alumna Annie Wang ’20, PlayCo’s Communications and Marketing Manager, will assist in the presentation of the virtual performance This Is Who I Am via PlayCo’s collaboration with Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company.
Keene by Alumna Anchuli Felicia King ’18 recently presented an online reading at Red Bull Theatre in conjunction with American Shakespeare Center. Keene is billed as an ode to always being the second-class genius of color, the play riffs on early-career academia, Shakespeare’s Othello, and the power of American pop.

Two Columbia alumni received recognition at the Dramatists Guild and Lilly Awards unprecedented virtual joint ceremony last month. Dramaturgy alumna Jillian Walker '17 received The Stacey Mindich ‘Go Work in Theater' Award as part of the Lilly Awards, while alumna Kia Corthron '92 took home the Flora Roberts Award from the Dramatists Guild in recognition of her previous work and encouragement of future endeavors.

This week we sat down with Dramaturgy alumna Lynn Spector ’15 and discussed her work. Spector is an Aries who has worked on Broadway shows such as Moulin Rouge and Beetlejuice. Most recently she served as the Assistant Director for the Second National Tour of The Color Purple.
SKiNFoLK: An American Show by alumna Jillian Walker ’17 was selected as a New York Times Critic’s Pick. The production had its first presentation at The Bushwick Starr as a part of the Star Reading Series in 2016. We spoke with Walker about the play’s inaugural reading in 2016. This season, SKiNFoLK returned to the Bushwick Starr with a full length production. The 2020 critically acclaimed production is directed by alumna Mei Ann Teo ’14.

Alumna Lucy Powis ’18 produced Really Really Gorgeous at The Tank. The world premiere production penned by Nick Mecikalski and directed by Miranda Haymon played the 99-seat Manhattan Theatre for 16 performances, closing February 9, 2020.
