Mynette Louie

Mynette Louie is a Spirit Award-winning, Emmy and Critics Choice-nominated producer. She is also an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice and the Co-Head of Creative Producing at Columbia University’s graduate film school. Louie won the Independent Spirit Producers Award and was named one of Business Insider’s “12 Movie Producers at the Top of Their Game to Watch,” Ted Hope’s “21 Brave Thinkers of Truly Free Film,” and Indiewire’s “100 Filmmakers to Follow on Twitter.” Her feature films have screened at Sundance, Berlin, SXSW, Tribeca, Locarno, Venice Critics Week, Toronto, New York Film Festival, MoMA, and many more.

As the first head of Gamechanger Films, Louie greenlit ten women-directed films which collectively garnered nine Spirit Award nominations and one win, including Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation (SXSW, Drafthouse/Netflix); Sundance-winning, Spirit Award-nominated Nancy starring Andrea Riseborough (Goldwyn); Buster’s Mal Heart starring Rami Malek (TIFF, Well Go/Netflix); Spirit Award-nominated Lovesong starring Riley Keough (Sundance, Strand/Netflix); and Venice Critics Week winner Hunting Season (Netflix).

Louie is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ Producers Branch, serves on Film Independent’s Board of Directors, and is a member of Producers United. She has been invited to speak and teach in hundreds of master classes, guest lectures, and panels at universities such as Harvard, Stanford, AFI Conservatory, NYU, UCLA, UNCSA, and Northwestern; film festivals including Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, Toronto, New York, Cairo, and Edinburgh; corporations such as Disney, NBC Universal, and Time Warner; and organizations including the PGA, DGA, WGA, Asia Society, Humanitas, Sundance Institute, Film Independent, and The Gotham. She has served on numerous juries for awards, grants, and film festivals, and has been profiled or interviewed by the NY Times, L.A. Times, The Town podcast, Bloomberg TV, NBC News, Vulture, Rolling Stone, Crain's NY Business, and many more.

Knowing no one in the film industry, Louie began her film career by producing three NYU Tisch graduate thesis films, though she did not attend the school. She also worked at the Hawaii Film Office, where she authored the state’s production tax credit, oversaw the $7.3 million renovation of the state-owned film studio, and developed programs to foster local independent filmmaking. Prior to producing films, she worked in marketing and business development at SportsIllustrated.com, Jupiter Research, and Time Magazine. A native New Yorker, Louie graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard University, where she studied Chinese literature and film.
