Gina Stevensen

Gina Stevensen is a playwright who embraces magic and myth to tell stories about gender, power, and identity. Her plays include Kids (Williamstown Theatre Festival), Buck (Governor's Island 2017 Summer Residency), Cruel Sister (Columbia University) and Book of Esther (Top Ten Finalist: 2017 Jewish Playwriting Contest, Semi-Finalist: 2016 Princess Grace Award). Gina was selected for Joust Theatre Company’s 2017 Workshop Series. Finalist: 2018 New Perspectives Theatre Company Women’s Work Play Lab, 2017 MFA mentor at Horizon Theatre’s Young Playwrights Festival. Gina is the Writing Coordinator for Tribeca Performing Arts Center’s Writers in Performance Workshop, teaches screenwriting at The Writer’s Rock and has worked as a TA in undergraduate drama at NYU and Barnard College. She is currently assisting Eve Ensler on the New York premiere of her solo show In the Body of the World at Manhattan Theatre Club. BFA Drama: NYU Tisch. Alumna Gina Stevenson ’18 was announced as a finalist for the 2020 Theatre503 International Playwriting Award. Stevenson was nominated alongside Ayad Andrews, Pravin Wilkins, Safaa Benson-Effiom and Zoe Ashford Cooper. 

The Colony, a thesis play by playwrighting alumna Gina Stevensen ’18, is the winner of the American Stage’s 21st Century Voices New Play Festival. The new play festival features live staged readings of five new plays from five exceptional up-and-coming playwrights from all over the United States. The staged reading will take place on Thursday, January 3 at the American Stage in St. Petersberg, Florida.
