In Your Area, a short film written and directed by current student Daniel Slottje and produced by alumni Elliot Zarrabi '18Jaclyn Noel '19 and Michael Goitanich '18, had its world premiere at the Screamfest Horror Film Festival in California on October 12th.

In In Your Area, Sophie Pongrace 'swipes-right' looking for a real connection but encounters something else entirely. Set over the course of one date, it explores dating-app culture, gender-dynamics, and ultimately the possibility (or lack thereof) of privacy in the digital age.

Reflecting on his film, Slottje commented: “In Your Area is an arthouse horror short designed to showcase the scary and realistic side of modern dating. I wanted to make a highly visual, moody, and atmospheric piece that reflected my own feelings and concerns over the world of dating apps.”

Screamfest Horror Film Festival is the largest and longest running horror film festival in the United States. Some of the largest horror online publications have called it the "Sundance of Horror". The festival is held at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood, California. This year’s festival runs from October 8 - 17.

Daniel Slottje is an award-winning writer and director from Upstate New York. Slottje's screenplay See Ya was produced in Iceland and had its world premiere at Aspen Shortsfest in 2017 before later playing in film festivals around the world. Slottje was the recipient of the Best New Director prize at the 6th Annual Columbia Gorge International Film Festival.
