Anna Ting Möller '23 was awarded a 2026 Franklin Furnace FUND for Performance Art for her performance piece Dissolve and Coagulate—A Visual Inquiry into Abjection. Since 1985, the Franklin Furnace FUND has awarded grants to early-career artists to prepare for major performance art works in New York. Franklin Furnace celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, along with the 41st anniversary of its FUND for Performance Art.
Dissolve and Coagulate is centered on a kombucha SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast), also referred to as a kombucha mother or matrilineage, originally gifted to the artist in China and cultivated over the last decade. This piece follows Möller’s previous work with kombucha as a medium, adding a slippery, living texture to the artist’s sculpture. The performance will interrogate the dichotomy of care, a term which, the artist notes in a description of the work, signifies both cure and concern. Performers will “engage in acts of cultivation—feeding, harvesting, grafting, stitching, and reconfiguring the material and space … positioning the body as caretaker, manipulator, and contaminant.”
Anna Ting Möller is based in New York and Stockholm. She is the 2026–2027 recipient of the Bernadotte Scholarship from The Art Academy, culminating in a solo exhibition in August 2027. Möller was also awarded a 2026 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship in sculpture. Her work has been shown at MASS MoCA, Liljevalchs Konsthall, and ArkDes, among others, and she has been awarded residencies at prestigious cultural institutions, including MacDowell, Robert Wilson’s The Watermill Center, and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
