Among the many consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the closest to home for the School of the Arts community has been the effect on students' MFA experience. Thanks to shut-downs and a switch to remote or hybrid learning, many of our students have not been able to showcase or even practice their art in a typical way.

With this in mind, School of the Arts Dean Carol Becker and other representatives from the School of the Arts came together with seven other MFA programs—ArtCenter College of Design, California Institute of the Arts, Otis College of Art and Design, Weitzman School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania, UCLA Department of Art, University of Chicago Department of Visual Arts, and Yale School of Art—to found and launch the MFA Index

The MFA Index is an online space that boasts several functions—as a virtual gallery of visual art, a directory of MFA students, graduates and their work, and "a rich resource for prospective and current students, alumni, artists, teachers, and/or anyone with an interest in art practices and pedagogy."

The hope is to create a vast platform for students and their art, and the MFA Index is open to other institutions by request
