'Refuge' by Alumni Premieres at Montclair Film Festival

Refuge, directed and co-written by Federico Spiazzi '18, co-written by Fernanda Frotte '17, produced by Federica Belletti '18 and co-produced by Maggie Briggs ’19 will have its world premiere at the Montclair Film Festival in early May.

Refuge is a story about a crossroads in Athens, where people of different nationalities, including locals, refugees and tourists come together in a bakery. Life passes slowly by inside an empty Greek bakery until an afternoon storm strikes.

The film also received the KODAK Student Scholarship Silver Award, a $3,000 Tuition Scholarship Award, & $3,000 KODAK Motion Picture Product Grant, a National Board of Review Student Grant, and the Refinery 29’s Best Film Award at the 2018 Columbia University Film Festival.

Spiazzi hails from Italy and has worked as a freelance cinematographer and editor internationally since 2009. He has directed commercials, short docs and narrative short films that have screened internationally.

The Montclair Film Festival connects global filmmakers with audiences in a diverse, culturally vibrant community by presenting films and year-round programs that engage, entertain and educate through the power of visual storytelling. It runs May 3-12, 2019.
