'Postman,' a Short by Students to Screen at San Diego International Film Festival (SDIFF)

Postman, written & directed by student Minkyu Kang and produced by students Bofan Zhang and Robert Jones, will screen at the San Diego International Film Festival (SDIFF) from October 15-18. A short, shown in the "On Pins & Needles" category, Postman is about a mail carrier who finds a dying painter left alone in an unlocked apartment. 

SDIFF is an independent film festival produced by the non-profit San Diego Film Foundation in San Diego, California. The festival is held annually in October across two "villages" in the Gaslamp Quarter and La Jolla. San Diego Film Foundation brings the finest independent cinematic storytelling from around the world to San Diego each year, presenting films that make a difference through a robust variety of events and programs including The San Diego International Film Festival, FOCUS on Impact Film Tour for high school students, Film Insider Screenings, and Industry Insider Series. 

Gala Premieres which have been nominated for or won major awards from the SDIFF festival include: Jojo Rabbit, The Irishman, Marriage Story, Motherless Brooklyn, Parasite, Clemency, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, The Ballad Of Lefty Brown, Breathe, Call Me By Your Name, Marshall, Lion, Denial, Hell Or High Water, Captain Fantastic, Room, Silver Linings Playbook, August: Osage County, Twelve Years A Slave, The Imitation Game, Wild, Whiplash, and many others. 

Kang is a director, screenwriter, and producer based in both the United States and South Korea. He received his BA in Film and TV Production at the University of Southern California in 2012. After two-years of military service in South Korea, he worked in the local film and advertising industry, during which time he directed short films, TV commercials, and art videos, which have been selected and screened at multiple international film festivals, including Bilbao Fantasy Film Festival, Bogota Short Film Festival, and San Diego International Film Festival. He is currently pursuing an MFA degree in Directing/Screenwriting at Columbia University.

Zhang is a producer based between the US and China. She holds a BA in Film and TV Producing from Communication University of China, and is in pursuit of her MFA in Creative Producing at Columbia University. She was selected for one of the 2020 IFP WEEK Narrative Series reviewers. Her short film On Track was showcased at DOC NYC. Her feature documentary Go Through The Dark is officially selected for 2019 SVA Premiere and the 5th FreshPitch, has the award-winning editor E. Donna Shepherd joined as the editor. Her first feature, Frozen Egg, Broken Egg, is an official selection at the Financing Forum of the 10th Beijing International Film Festival and the 14th FIRST International Film Festival.

Jones is a painter, screenwriter, and director based in New Mexico who's first short, Play War (2005), screened at Palm Springs Shortfest, Cleveland Int'l Film Festival, and Tres Court International Film Festival. He received the Artist Fellowship Award, Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, for The Raft (2009) which screened at the Takoma Film Festival and Woods Hole Film Festival where it won Best Young Actor. He is currently working on Encore (2019) as the fulfillment of his degree.
