Writing alum Jean Kyoung Frazier '18 has joined the writers' room for HBO’s newest show, I Love LA. Created by and starring actress Rachel Sennott, I Love LA is a television series about a group of friends who reconnect after years apart and follows the group as they attempt to navigate the difficulties of ambition, relationships, and the inevitable changes that come with growing up. New York Times writer Alexis Soloski describes the show as “The Anti Friends.” “There are friends around, but they’re largely toxic," says Soloski.
Jean Kyoung Frazier is an American novelist and screenwriter. Her novel Pizza Girl is a coming-of-age story about a pregnant pizza delivery girl in Los Angeles who becomes obsessed with one of her customers: a stay at home mom named Jenny. Pizza Girl was published by Doubleday in 2020 and won the Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Fiction in 2021. Kyoung Frazier also contributes to Unpublishable, an anthology edited by Chris Molnar, the founder of the press Archway Editions. In television, Frazier has written for Law & Order: Organized Crime, and for the Netflix show Beef, which tells the story of two strangers whose lives become intertwined after a car accident. Beef garnered much critical acclaim and won eight Emmys in 2023. Kyoung Frazier was also a part of the writing team for Lucky Hank starring Bob Odenkirk as a professor at an underfunded college in Pennsylvania.
I Love LA is slated for eight episodes, with Frazier receiving solo writing credit for Episode 3, which is currently untitled. The series premieres November 2, 2025 on HBO.
