Film alum Constance Tsang '20 has been selected for the revered La Résidence du Festival de Cannes, a coveted residence in which emerging directors dedicate themselves to developing their first or second feature film projects in two sessions lasting four and a half months.
Tsang, who won the French Touch Prize at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival for her acclaimed debut feature Blue Sun Palace, is one of six new directors welcomed to the 49th session of the residence which will take place from March 15 to July 31, 2025. During the residency, Tsang will develop her next feature, My Mother and Yours.
“I am deeply grateful and honored to be selected to La Résidence as I embark on writing my next feature," Tsang said. "Writing, for me, is both a frustrating and joyful process—one that often demands intense focus and can feel profoundly isolating. The opportunity to fully immerse myself in storytelling is a true gift, but what makes this experience even more special is the chance to share the journey, support, and collaborate with my fellow residents—something I will truly cherish.”
Each year the Festival Residence offers its participants the opportunity to devote themselves to writing their feature film in a privileged setting in the heart of Paris. During the four and a half month residency, each filmmaker is accompanied in the development of their script and advised through their transition to production. They are also put into a collective program of meetings with directors, producers, labs and representatives of film institutions, deepening their knowledge of co-production systems in France and Europe.
Tsang has made a significant impact on global cinema since her time at Columbia, and her selection for this year’s La Résidence du Festival de Cannes has us eagerly anticipating what she’ll do next!
