Columbia theatremakers are working on Lincoln Center Theater's latest production, the political thriller Kyoto. Former adjunct faculty member Diane DiVita stage manages the play, and Theatre alum Odera Adimorah '19 acts as understudy for two supporting roles. The play runs from October 8 to November 30, 2025.

Kyoto is a dramatization of the 1997 Kyoto Climate Conference, where nations gathered to address the existential threat of climate change. The goal is threatened by the play's narrator, master strategist and Big Oil lobbyist Don Pearlman, whose meddling complicates the landmark Kyoto Accord.

The play, produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company and Good Chance, opened to acclaim in Stratford-upon-Avon and London's West End before arriving at Lincoln Center. In its premiere run, the play earned an Olivier Award nomination for Best New Play.

Adimorah has acted in film, television and stage productions, including the role of Friar Lawrence in Classical Theater of Harlem's production of Romeo and Juliet. In Kyoto, Adimorah serves as understudy to Tanzania and Saudi Arabia, characters whose names reflect the countries they represented at the conference. Saudi Arabia colludes with Pearlman to undermine the conference's emissions goals. Tanzania fights for a more just world.

Kyoto runs at Lincoln Center Theater Tuesday through Sunday until November 30. Tickets are available for purchase here.
