Two Columbia films have been selected to screen at the Academy Award qualifying PÖFF Shorts Film Festival. Part of the larger Black Nights Film Festival, PÖFF Shorts is one of the biggest short film and animation festivals in the region. The festival’s mission is to showcase the best animated and live action short films of all genres from cutting-edge talents and bold visionaries across the world.
At this year’s festival, there is Columbia representation on the jury and in the festival line up. Rodney Llaverias ’20 will serve on the International Shorts jury at the PÖFF Shorts Film Festival; and So They Say (Así Dicen), directed by Natalia Luque Barrios ’22, written by Luque Barrios and Cecilia Otero ’22, and produced by Otero and Donovan Tolledo ’22, is screening in the 2023 New Talents selection.
So They Say is set in a small Chilean town where rumors spread like wildfire after an aborted fetus is found floating on a lake. A single mother and saleswoman’s values and morals are put to test when she discovers the culprit to be one of her young female clients.
This year's festival runs from November 7 to November 15. See the full film lineup here.
