Columbia Filmmakers Chosen to Participate in Cine Qua Non's Lab

Six Film alumnae and their feature length narrative projects have been chosen to participate in Cine Qua Non’s Script Revision and Storylines Labs. They are: Missy Hernandez ‘17, Agnes Karlsson ‘22, Moara Passoni ‘21, and Madi Stine ‘22 for the Script Revision Lab and Charlotte Glynn ‘13 and Katya Skakun ‘20 for the Storyline Lab.

Six Film alumnae and their feature length narrative projects have been chosen to participate in Cine Qua Non’s Script Revision and Storylines Labs. They are: Missy Hernandez ‘17, Agnes Karlsson ‘22, Moara Passoni ‘21, and Madi Stine ‘22 for the Script Revision Lab and Charlotte Glynn ‘13 and Katya Skakun ‘20 for the Storyline Lab.

The Script Revision Lab allows participants to work on a feature length narrative script over the course of two weeks and the Storyline Lab allows participants to develop a feature length film that is currently in the treatment phase.

The following projects were selected for the Script Revision Lab:

Berry Pickers 

written by Agnes Karlsson ‘22

During an exceptionally hot summer in Sweden, a Thai migrant worker has to navigate the forest and his increasingly quarrelsome relationship with his older brother in order to find the blueberries needed to afford passage home.

 

Emery & Ellsworth Make a Picture 

written by Madi Stine ‘22

In 1911, brothers Emery and Ellsworth Kolb took a motion picture camera down 1,100 miles of unrelenting river with the dream of filming America’s southwest canyons. They were met with more adventure than they bargained for.

 

I Don’t Dream in Spanish Anymore 

written by Missy Hernandez ‘17

 A mother-to-be must uncover the secrets of her family history and embrace her clairvoyant abilities to undo the ancestral curse that could claim her baby’s life.

 

Cost of Living 

written by Moara Passoni ‘21

São Paulo, 1974. Set during the military dictatorship, Cost of Living shares the true story of Ana Santos, an Afro-Brazilian, working-class mother struggling to put food on her table. Ana blossoms into a sensual, visionary leader, lighting her community ablaze and shaking the military regime to its core.

Untitled Nanny Script 

written by Charlotte Glynn ‘13  

A directionless recent college grad from the United States lands her dream job in Italy—nannying for a famous designer—but she’s soon confronted with the reality of what work means for most people in the world.

 

The Multi-Armed 

written by Katya Skakun ‘20

After her domineering husband breaks her arm, a mother of two learns how to resist through the power of magic. 

 

The Script Revision Lab is held in person in the small town of Michoacán, Mexico and takes place from Sunday August 14 through August 26, 2023. The StoryLine Lab takes place virtually between May 1 and May 31, 2023.
