Baby, the Columbia University thesis film of writer and director Thais Drassinower '18, won the Audience Award at the NALIP Latino Media Fest earlier this  month in Los Angeles, California.

Baby is a coming of age drama. An unnerving encounter with her estranged father at a nightclub while on a weekend back home in Lima is enough to remind Lia (19) that there are unhealed wounds. Through a series of disturbing events that night, she will be forced to understand that the only person who can take care of her is herself

NALIP’s Latino Media Fest brings together Latino filmmakers, industry reps, executives, and film aficionados. The festival features premieres, workshops, master classes, nightly industry mixers and a star-studded awards ceremony to recognize substantial work in entertainment that inspires Latino creatives to continue moving their projects forward in front and behind the camera.

Thais Drassinower is a Peruvian filmmaker. Her first short film Memories of the Sea, shot in Brazil, was selected as Best of Fest at the New York International Children's Film Festival after screening at several international festivals including Aspen Shortsfest and Palm Springs Shortfest. It was picked up for this year's KQED Film School Short Series, aired on Public US TV this summer and is now being showcased on their various online platforms. Her thesis film Baby was shot in Lima, Peru and was awarded the James Production Award Grant.
