Recent alumna Maria Teresa Fidalgo '21 was selected for the Berlin-based Takt residency, which will run from January to March 2023.

The residency is run through Takt, a small family-run, independent, non-profit, and creative hub that welcomes artists new to Berlin and fosters cultural exchange in the creative fields.

Applications to the program represent a diverse array of disciplines including visual arts, painting, sculpture, ceramics, performing arts, literature, new media, curatorial studies, arts administration, architecture, and more. During their residency, artists are given the time to pursue their own work and explore ideas independently, but they are also given access to group critiques and regularly Takt Talks—artists talks that "aim to encourage, share and engage the residents together. To support, not compete."

Fidalgo will attend the three-month program to pursue a self-guided artistic exploration of poetry, collage, and film criticism. As part of her time at Takt, she intends to write a manuscript of poems inspired by The Brothers Karamazov and a film criticism article on the representation of violence in film, specifically Paul Verhoeven’s Elle and the Quentin Tarantino cult-classic Kill Bill.
