Author Talk: Writers in Translation: Olena Jennings and C. Frances Fisher | Olena Jennings is the author of The Age of Secrets (2022) and Temporary Shelter (2021). She has translated or co-translated works by Ukrainian poets including Iryna Shuvalova, Kateryna Kalytko, Vasyl Makhno, and Yuliya Musakovska. Her translation of Anna Malihon’s Girl with a Bullet is upcoming. She also co-founded the Poets of Queens reading series and press. C. Francis Fisher's writing has been featured in publications such as The Brooklyn Rail, The Yale Review, and The Los Angeles Review of Books. Her poem “Self-Portrait at 25” won the 2021 Academy of American Poets Prize. She curates Colloquy, a live event series for translators. In the Glittering Maw is her first book of translation. On Rome and Writing: Jhumpa Lahiri and Alessandro Giammei | Under the tutelage of their patron deity Janus—the two-faced Roman god of thresholds, transience, and simultaneity—Jhumpa Lahiri and Alessandro Giammei will roam Rome remotely through five postcards. Tossing five coins in a virtual fountain, they will visit stairways and bridges, homes and piazzas, ruins and starships. They expect to be joined by the spirits of several fellow Romans and adoptive ancestors—such as Ovid, Ennio Flaiano, Petrarch, Amelia Rosselli, Raphael, and the characters of Roman Stories/Racconti Romani.
